India vs West Indies Live Score: Ravindra Jadeja and Mohammed Siraj ripped through the West Indies batting line-up to seal India's crushing innings-and-140-run victory on the third day of the first Test in Ahmedabad on Saturday. Declaring at their overnight score of 448/5, India bundled out the visitors for just 146 in the second innings to take a 1-0 lead in the two-match series. Jadeja (4/54) and Siraj (3/31) spearheaded the attack, with the pacer finishing with a seven-wicket match haul to continue his fine run of form.
Ravindra Jadeja declared Player of the Match
"I have been working hard on my batting. We had two months off, no Test cricket or ODIs, I was working on my fitness and skills during that time. I have been batting at no. 8 or 9, but now I have a number, number 6, I need no hurry or rush, I can take my time and play my game. Playing on red soil is fun, you get more turn and bounce, you enjoy that as a spinner. I would like to thank the coach and management, being the vice captain you are always there and I am happy to do it. I am not the captain yet, Kuldeep has bowled so much for India and Washi is also there, no need to give suggestions as they have all played for a long time," Jadeja said.
Captains at post match presentation
Shubman Gill: Six losses in a row. But as long as we keep winning the matches it does not matter. This was a perfect game for us, three centurions in the game and we fielded really well, no complaints. Whenever you get a start, both of us got starts and could not convert, plenty of others did and happy for them. When you have quality spinners like them it is difficult to rotate, that is the challenge and fun of playing in India, there will be someone out there to get the job done. So many things, it is hard to pin down to one thing, we have played as team and got out of tough situations. If we keep learning and using the experience then I will be happy.
Roston Chase: When you win the toss and get bowled out for 160-odd it is tough to come back from that. Not the performance we were looking for. We have to bat better especially in India you have to put up a big first innings total and that is something we need to look at. No problem with the decision, everyone wanted to bat first, there was a bit of moisture and this is Test cricket, you expect moisture and we had to batted better. The timing was off, when we took the second new ball we had to make the batters play more. The batting is the main problem, getting those partnerships and we didn't get any fifty partnerships, in cricket it is about getting partnerships.
Mohammed Siraj - Feeling very happy, we did well with both bat and ball. The wicket was slow in the 2nd innings, it just wasn't coming onto the bat, felt like taking 5 wickets here (despite grabbing 3). I didn't know that (on being told it's the first time he took wickets in a 2nd innings in India), it's a special feeling. The batting was good, everyone took responsibility, KL has been making runs since the England tour, Shubman has been good and so have the others.
