IND vs SA Highlights, 1st Test Day 3: South Africa pull off thrilling 30-run victory over India

Keshav Maharaj admitted he “felt a little bit of nerves” as South Africa closed in on a landmark Test win in India, saying the sinking light made it hard to catch his breath. “I tried to be clear on my plans… luckily I got the reward and a brilliant catch by Temba,” he said. Maharaj praised Simon Harmer, calling him “phenomenal… he showed why he’s got 1,000 first-class wickets. It’s a privilege to bowl alongside him.”

He said the squad showed “a real hunger and desire to cross over the line”, comparing the confidence from the Pakistan tour while stressing India is “a different ball game”. Maharaj highlighted leadership too: “Temba showed us and gave us the field sets to allow us to bowl the way we wanted to. One must give a lot of credit to him.”

On winning a Test in India, he said: “It’s probably the one assignment we hadn’t ticked from a box perspective… it’s our first leg forward, and we can be really, really, really proud of what we’ve achieved today.”

South Africa win by 30 runs

FOUR & SIX! Axar Patel swings hard at Maharaj’s fuller ball and gets enough on it as Rickelton misjudges the flight at deep midwicket. It trickles away to the rope. Next ball Axar nails the slogsweep. Maharaj tosses it up again and Axar sends it sailing over deep midwicket with a clean strike. IND 87/7 in (34.3)

OUT! India sink further as Simon Harmer strikes again. A sharp offbreak rips past Kuldeep Yadav’s forward defence and thuds into the back pad. He sends it upstairs but there is no edge and ball-tracking shows three reds. IND 77/8 in (33.2)

OUT! India slip again as Markram produces a lovely offbreak that bounces and turns away. Washington Sundar lunges forward but the ball kisses the outer edge and flies low to Harmer at first slip who takes a sharp catch. IND 74/7 in (31)

OUT! Jadeja falls and India sink further. Harmer floats one from round the wicket and gets sharp dip on it. Jadeja plays with his bat tucked behind the pad and it hits him full on the boot on the half-volley. He looks unsure and turns to Washington before sending it upstairs. Ball-tracking shows three reds and India lose another big wicket. IND 64/5 in (27.1)

FOUR! Ravindra Jadeja punishes a fuller delivery down leg from Simon Harmer. He sweeps hard to fine leg, and De Zorzi dives from backward short leg but can’t stop it. IND 48/4 in (21.2)

OUT! Rishabh Pant is dismissed after failing to read Simon Harmer’s clever slower delivery. The ball drifts onto the left-hander, and Pant, trying to work it on the on-side, closes the bat a bit too early. A simple return catch goes straight to Harmer, and India lose their fourth wicket. NOT OUT! Rishabh Pant faced a huge appeal for a catch at backward short-leg off Keshav Maharaj. South Africa reviewed, but UltraEdge shows the ball came off the fore-arm and not the glove. LBW check confirms impact outside off-stump, and the review is unsuccessful.

NOT OUT! Dhruv Jurel was given caught behind off Corbin Bosch and immediately went for a review. UltraEdge shows a clear gap between bat and ball, confirming it was just the bat flicking the pad. The original decision is reversed, and Jurel stays at the crease.
