Abhishek Sharma’s accomplishment not only broke Malan’s long-held record, but also surpassed the individual best career ratings of Indian batting legends Suryakumar Yadav (912) and Virat Kohli (909).
Astonishingly, that also coming in just over a year since he made his international debut. Abhishek has also captured a big lead over England’s Phil Salt, who sits in second place is 82 points behind Abhishek. Another Indian, Tilak Varma, is in third place after accumulating a solid 213 runs during his time in the Asia Cup.
The rankings update also saw Sri Lanka’s Pathum Nissanka jump to fifth place after scoring 261 runs during the Asia Cup. Nissanka’s teammate Kusal Perera climbed two spots to ninth place. Pakistan’s Sahibzada Farhan jumped 11 spots up to 13th place. Last but not least, India’s Sanju Samson moved up eight spots to 31st place, all as a result of their success in the Asia Cup.
In the all-rounder category, Pakistan's Saim Ayub made news when he dethroned Hardik Pandya as the number one all-rounder. Although Ayub struggled with the bat, taking eight wickets at the Asia Cup moved him up four places to number one and pushed Pandya to second.
Pakistan's Mohammad Nawaz advanced four places to number 13, and Sri Lanka's Charith Asalanka moved up three places to joint 30th.
The new rankings not only demonstrate Abhishek Sharma's rise as a batting force in the world, but also reflect the balance of power across teams as a result of the high-pressure Asia Cup.
