NEW DELHI: Talented Indian all-rounder Harshit Rana has opened up about an emotional phase from his early cricketing days, revealing how failure shaped his mindset.

The 24-year-old has silenced critics in recent times with consistent performances, delivering at regular intervals despite the noise that once surrounded his selection.

Rana spoke candidly about the struggles he faced before making it to the top level. For years, selection remained a distant dream, and rejection became a routine.

“I know how to handle failure now. I have seen those 10 years where I would not get selected. I would go to trials, and my name would not come. I would come back and cry every day in front of my father,” Harshit said while speaking on the Men’s Locker Room podcast.

Reflecting further, Rana explained how those repeated setbacks eventually made him mentally stronger.

“Now, I feel that failure has gone. Whatever comes, I can handle it. I had given up,” he added.

Rana is known for his pace and ability to swing the ball. Despite his skill set, he faced heavy criticism in the early phase of his career. Former players and fans questioned his selection, with some even calling it a case of coach’s favoritism.

Rana answered those doubts in the best possible way, with performances on the field. One of his standout displays came in the opening ODI against New Zealand in Vadodara.

He picked up two crucial wickets with the ball and then chipped in with a valuable 29 runs lower down the order during India’s successful chase.
