In a completely one-sided Super League Group B contest of the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy Elite 2025, Hyderabad crushed Mumbai by nine wickets, finishing the chase in just 11.5 overs at the MCA Stadium in Pune.

What was expected to be a close battle quickly turned into a demolition job by Hyderabad’s top order.

Mumbai crumble after a shaky start

Sent in to bat, Mumbai struggled from the outset. Yashasvi Jaiswal showed early promise with a brisk 29 off 20, but the wickets around him kept tumbling. Ajinkya Rahane (9), Sarfaraz Khan (5), and Angkrish Raghuvanshi (4) failed to build any meaningful partnerships, putting Mumbai under immediate pressure.

Hardik Tamore and Suryansh Shedge attempted to rebuild with a 45-run stand, but Hyderabad’s bowlers continued to strike at regular intervals. No Mumbai batter crossed 30, and their rotation of strike remained poor throughout.

From a modest 52/3 in the powerplay, Mumbai eventually folded for 131 all out.

Mohammed Siraj led the attack brilliantly with figures of 3/17, while Ravi Teja Milind and Tanay Thyagarajan chipped in with two wickets each. Chasing 132, Hyderabad openers Tanmay Agarwal and Aman Rao went on an all-out assault. The pair stitched together a commanding 127-run opening stand in just 11.2 overs, killing the contest inside the powerplay.

Tanmay smashed a superb 75 off 40 balls, laced with 7 fours and 4 sixes, attacking from the very first over. Aman Rao matched his aggression, hammering an unbeaten 52 off 29 to finish the chase with ease.

Mumbai’s bowlers had no answers. Captain Shardul Thakur conceded 24 runs in his only over, while Kotian and Ankolekar were equally ineffective. The lone wicket came courtesy of Tushar Deshpande, who dismissed Tanmay near the end.

Hyderabad wrapped up the chase with 9 wickets in hand, handing Mumbai a heavy and humbling defeat.
