NEW DELHI: Tilak Varma is fit and expected to return to international action soon, Hyderabad coach DB Ravi Teja has confirmed, putting to rest speculation that the Indian T20 batter could miss the upcoming Twenty20 World Cup.

The clarification has come as a major relief for fans amid growing concerns over Tilak’s recent injury setback.

According to a Cricbuzz report, the Hyderabad coach revealed that Tilak underwent only a minor procedure and is already on the path to recovery.

“It was a very minor surgery he underwent in Rajkot on Wednesday. There is nothing serious or alarming about it. He will be ready in three to four days,” Ravi Teja told Cricbuzz on Thursday.

Tilak had to undergo surgery for testicular torsion in Rajkot on January 7 after sustaining an injury during Hyderabad’s match against Bengal. Despite the setback, the coach made it clear that the situation was under control and did not warrant panic.

Providing further reassurance, Ravi Teja added that Tilak is currently with the Hyderabad squad and will return home with the team.

“Tilak is with the team currently, and he will travel back with the side to Hyderabad. I personally think he should be fine for the Twenty20 series against New Zealand.”

The coach also revealed that Tilak was almost ready to feature in Hyderabad’s match against Jammu and Kashmir on January 8, which the team eventually lost.

“He would have been ready to play today. We did not want to take chances since we had no chance of qualifying for the knockouts,” Ravi Teja said.
