NEW DELHI: Three years ago, on October 23, Virat Kohli reminded the cricketing world why he is considered one of the modern greats, producing perhaps the finest knock of his career against Pakistan in the T20 World Cup.

Fast forward three years to the same date, and Kohli found himself in unfamiliar territory, dismissed for a duck in the second ODI against Australia at the Adelaide Oval on Thursday - a venue long considered his happy hunting ground.

What made matters worse was that Kohli is yet to open his account on his international comeback, having also endured an 8-ball duck in the first ODI in Perth. This was also the first time Kohli has been dismissed for duck in successive ODI innings.

It also marked Kohli's 18th duck in ODIs after he went past Rohit Sharma (16) in the first ODI in the list of Indian players with most ducks in ODI cricket.

Aussie pacer Xavier Bartlett trapped Kohli plumb in front while he attempted a flick, but he got beaten on the inside edge. The nip-backer struck him in the crease for a plumb LBW, and ball-tracking shows it was heading straight for the middle of middle stump.

Kohli has always enjoyed tremendous success on Australian soil across all three formats, boasting a stellar record. However, the Adelaide Oval holds a special place in his career, functioning as one of his most reliable and favorite overseas hunting grounds.

Before this match, Kohli has scored a total of 244 runs in four games at an average of 61.0, with a strike rate of 83.84. During his time at the venue, he has registered two centuries, with his highest score being 107.
