Among other moments sealed with a photo, Harmanpreet Kaur showing off to the camera in front of Mumbai’s Gateway of India has taken the social world by storm. The resemblance of this moment to MS Dhoni’s celebration of the 2011 World Cup has been widely talked about, just a little more than 14 years apart. India’s women’s cricket team clinched the Women’s World Cup for the first time with a 52-run victory over South Africa in the final at the DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai on Sunday, November 2.

However, Dhoni was wearing a blazer over a formal shirt when he took the photos while Harmanpreet was seen in the Indian ODI jersey. What is common in both their photos is the beaming of their faces lit up with an unprecedented happy moment. India’s 2025 win was the first 50-over World Cup title for the women's team, whereas Dhoni lifted the trophy after 28 years of wait for the men's team in 2011. In the men’s final at the Wankhede Stadium, India defeated Sri Lanka by six wickets with 10 balls to spare, while the women’s team bested South Africa by 52 runs.
One more amazing similarity just as genius between the two campaigns is the 'Player of the Tournament' awards, in both cases, given to the all-rounders. 2011 it was Yuvraj Singh (362 runs and 15 wickets) who received the award, while 2025 it is Deepti Sharma (215 runs and 22 wickets) who got the honor thus being the key players in India’s World Cup-winning journey.
