NEW DELHI: India captain Harmanpreet Kaur gave Australia a huge reprieve early in the ICC Women's World Cup semifinal as she made a mess of what should have been a simple catch. Harmanpreet dropped a dolly at mid-off, allowing Australian skipper Alyssa Healy to survive.
Healy attempted to go downtown off Renuka Singh Thakur but chipped it towards Harmanpreet at mid-off. The Indian skipper reached out over her right shoulder, only to put it down.
However, Healy failed to capitalise on the reprieve as Kranti Gaud cleaned her up in the sixth over before rain halted play. Healy brought the bat down at an angle, only to get an inside edge that crashed into the middle stump.
Earlier, Healy won the toss and elected to bat against India in the second semifinal of the Women's ODI World Cup in Navi Mumbai.
For India, Shafali Verma came in for Pratika Rawal, who has been ruled out of the tournament, while Uma Chetry and Harleen Deol make way for Richa Ghosh and Kranti Gaud.
Skipper Healy returned for Australia alongside Sophie Molineux, replacing Georgia Wareham and Georgia Voll in the XI.
The winner of this game will take on South Africa in the summit clash on Sunday.
