NEW DELHI: Pakistan's falsehoods have often been exposed, whether on the cricket field or in political discourse. In another embarrassing incident, an old video of former Pakistan spinner Saeed Ajmal resurfaced on social media, showing him revealing uncomfortable truths about his country.
In a clip from a 2023 podcast with Nadir Ali, Ajmal reminisced about Pakistan's 2009 T20 World Cup win and revealed that each player had been promised PKR 25 lakh by then Prime Minister Yusuf Raza Gilani.
Ajmal expressed his happiness at the time, as the award was a substantial sum, but to their dismay, the cheques later bounced.
"I was shocked that even a government cheque could bounce. We were told the PCB chief would handle it, but they also refused, saying it was the government's promise. In the end, the only money we got was from the ICC."

Pakistan Prime Minister gave a cheque of 25 lakh rupees because we won the Asia Cup.
But when I went to the bank, they said the government account doesn’t have money.

Ajmal's comments, surfacing just after India's Asia Cup triumph, have sparked fresh debate over how cricket boards reward their players.
Ajmal recalled the broken promises following Pakistan's 2009 T20 World Cup win, when players were reportedly promised cheques of PKR 25 lakh each - only for them to later bounce. In stark contrast, the BCCI announced a cash prize of Rs 21 crore for the Indian squad immediately after their Asia Cup victory on Sunday.
Ajmal, who claimed 12 wickets during Pakistan's 2009 campaign, remains one of the country’s most successful spinners, despite his career ending in 2015 after an ICC suspension over his bowling action.
