NEW DELHI: The Indian Army paid a special tribute to the Indian women's cricket team for their historic Women's Cricket World Cup 2025 victory during the Beating Retreat Ceremony 2026 at Vijay Chowk.

In a memorable moment, the Army formed a unique World Cup trophy formation to honour the champions, celebrating their achievement in front of dignitaries and spectators gathered for the iconic ceremony that marked the end of Republic Day celebrations.

India won their maiden Women's World Cup title with a 52-run victory over South Africa on November 2 last year in Navi Mumbai.

Asked to bat first, the hosts piled up a commanding 298 for 7, powered by fluent half-centuries from Shafali Verma, who struck an aggressive 87, and Deepti Sharma, who added a composed 58.

In reply, skipper Laura Wolvaardt stood tall with a superb century, scoring 101 to anchor the chase. However, her effort proved insufficient as South Africa were bundled out for 246 in 45.3 overs.

Deepti capped off a standout all-round performance with a brilliant spell of 5 for 39, sealing a memorable night for the hosts.
