NEW DELHI: India's Asia Cup Super 4 clash against Pakistan not only showcased dominant cricket but also highlighted the special bond between young opener Abhishek Sharma and his long-time friend and partner, Shubman Gill.

In a lighthearted post-match chat with captain Suryakumar Yadav, Abhishek opened up about how their partnership works so seamlessly. Surya described the duo as a "fire-and-ice combination" - one relying on power hitting, the other on elegance and timing.

Abhishek explained that their understanding dates back to their Punjab U-12 days. "We know each other's game so well - I can almost predict what shot he will play, and he knows what I'm about to do. Often, it happens through just a look, an understanding without words," he said in a video posted by BCCI on social media.

Suryakumar teased Abhishek about not enjoying running between the wickets, preferring boundaries instead, while Gill happily sprints for tight singles. Abhishek laughed and admitted he had warned Gill beforehand to be ready for such situations.

During the lighthearted chat, Surya asked Abhishek if fans would get to see him bowl in the tournament, mentioning that he had heard about his bowling skills.

Abhishek replied confidently that as the tournament progresses, he believes the captain has complete faith in him - and he too has full faith in himself. Surya jokingly added that he would find the captain and ask him directly, to which Abhishek quipped that the captain was right there nearby.

Reflecting on the match, Abhishek credited the team's ethos of playing selflessly. "From the start, our coach has told us to remain selfless. Whether it's rotating strike or playing the long innings, it's always about what the team requires," he said. He also shared how emotional it was for him when he was reminded of his father during the game. "When I stood at the crease, I remembered how my father would watch me bat on the screen. That was a special moment."

Suryakumar praised Abhishek's smart batting approach against the spinners, highlighting how his calculated hitting made the chase easier for everyone.

Talking about the presence of his family in the stands, Abhishek said, "It's very special when they come. It feels like whenever they are here, the team wins comfortably. That makes it even more memorable."

Finally, Surya asked Abhishek about his trademark celebration - removing his gloves, rolling up his sleeves, and making a gesture. Abhishek revealed the meaning: "This means love. It's for all our fans, for those who cheer for us and for India. This celebration is dedicated to them. It's for India."
