The Asia Cup 2025 final was far from drama and outrage, from on pitch to off pitch, chaos and political fiasco followed everywhere. The post-match presentation ceremony saw the Pakistani captain, Salman Agha, throwing away the runners-up cheque after he received it from an Asian Cricket Council (ACC) representative. Following that, ACC chairman Mohsin Naqvi scurried away with the trophy and medals.

After minutes of discussion between ACC members on who would hand over the trophy to the champions, the trophy was sent away, prompting the champions to celebrate without any silverware. The Pakistani players stayed in their dressing room before they emerged to collect their runners-up cheque. A visibly frustrated Pakistani Captain Salman Agha appeared, took the cheque and threw it away in anger. The Indian crowd descended in boos.

Furthermore, in the post-match press conference, Salman Agha claimed that Suryakumar Yadav shook hands with him in private but refused in front of the cameras. He said, “He shook hands with me in private at the start of the tournament. Both at the pre-tournament press conference and when we met in the referee's meeting. But when they're out in front of the cameras, they don't shake our hands. I'm sure he's following the instructions he's been given, but if it was up to him, he'd shake hands with me.”

Salman Agha also criticised the Indian team for bad sportsmanship and for mixing sports and politics. “What India has done in this tournament is very disappointing,” he said. “They’re not disrespecting us by not shaking hands—they’re disrespecting cricket. Good teams don’t do what they did today. We went to pose with the trophy on our own because we wanted to fulfil our obligations.”

Just like Suryakumar Yadav, the Pakistani captain also dedicated his Asia Cup match fees to the Operation Sindoor victims.
