NEW DELHI: After the names of Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli were missing from the latest ICC ODI Rankings - sending shockwaves through the cricketing world and sparking speculation about the retirement of both Indian stalwarts - the ICC has issued a clarification, stating it was a technical glitch.
Notably, Rohit and Virat, who occupied the 2nd and 4th spots in last week’s rankings, were completely missing from the latest update, with their names absent even from the top 100 ODI batters.
"A number of issues in this week's rankings are currently being investigated," ICC told Wisden.

Players are typically removed from the rankings only after retirement. While both Rohit and Virat have retired from T20Is and Tests, they continue to remain active in ODIs.
This naturally caused confusion over why their names were omitted, especially since no other players were affected and the Test and T20I rankings remained unchanged.
It wasn't just Virat and Rohit who were affected - there were several other glitches as well. Retired cricketers like Faf du Plessis reappeared in the ICC rankings, along with names such as Steve Tikolo, Alex Obanda, Thomas Odoyo, and Anshy Rath. However, in the latest update, these players have once again been removed from the list.
The ICC quickly took note of the situation and resolved the issue, restoring the rankings with inactive players removed and Rohit and Kohli reinstated to their previous positions from last week.
