NEW DELHI: Former India cricketer Jacob Martin was arrested on Tuesday after allegedly crashing his luxury SUV into three parked cars in Vadodara district while driving under the influence of alcohol, police said.

The incident took place in the early hours of the day, and Martin, 53, who featured in 10 ODIs for India, was taken into custody a few hours later.

According to officials at the Akota Police Station, the former Baroda batter was driving his MG Hector near Punit Nagar Society in the Akota area around 2.30 am when he lost control of the vehicle due to intoxication and rammed into three cars parked outside a residence, causing significant damage.

Following a complaint lodged by the owner of the damaged vehicles, police registered a case against Martin under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) pertaining to rash and drunk driving.

Police have seized Martin’s SUV as part of the investigation.

It is worth noting that the former Baroda Ranji Trophy captain had earlier been arrested by Delhi Police in 2011 in connection with a human trafficking case.
