A recent video of Rohit Sharma lavishing praise on former India wicketkeeper Wriddhiman Saha has been making the rounds on social media, with Ravichandran Ashwin now joining in on the conversation.

In the clip, Rohit is seen working out alongside Saha in a gym, reminiscing about their playing days as fellow gym-goers listen in. The former India captain described Saha as a once-in-a-generation wicketkeeper, particularly highlighting his ability to read even the most challenging bowlers from behind the stumps.

Rohit pointed to spinners like Ashwin, known for his vast range of variations, and all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja, whose pace and skid make life difficult for keepers in Indian conditions. According to Rohit, Saha could anticipate deliveries that sometimes even the bowler himself wasn’t aware of.

“Aisa keeper India ne aaj tak kabhi nahi dekha. India ka sabse best keeper hai. India mein ball itna spin hota hai, low rehta hai. Usmein keeping karna aur focus bana ke rakhna bohot mushkil hota hai. Jadeja jaise bowler hain jo tez daalte hain, Ashwin hai jo itna skilful hai—upar se daalta hai, carrom ball daalta hai, kaunsi ball daali hai usko bhi kabhi-kabhi nahi pata hota. Sab ball Saha ne pakdi hai,” Rohit said.

Reacting to the viral video, Ashwin responded with humour while echoing Rohit’s admiration for Saha’s keeping skills.

“Rohit being Rohit! Aaj tak mujhe bhi nahi pata ki maine kaunsi gend phenk di. Jokes apart, what a keeper Saha was,” Ashwin tweeted.

Ravichandran Ashwin predicts IPL 2026 top four

Ashwin

Meanwhile, Ashwin has revealed his predicted top four teams for IPL 2026 following the mini auction—and his list raised eyebrows. The veteran spinner surprisingly left out his former franchise and five-time champions Chennai Super Kings.
Ashwin picked Royal Challengers Bengaluru, Mumbai Indians, Punjab Kings, and Rajasthan Royals as his semi-finalists for the upcoming season. His omission of CSK comes after a strained end to his association with the franchise, as he opted out even before the retention list was announced.

Ravichandran Ashwin pulls out of BBL debut

In another development, Ashwin has withdrawn from the upcoming Big Bash League season after sustaining a knee injury during a training session. The spinner was set to make his BBL debut with Sydney Thunder in the 2025–26 season, which would have seen him become the first Indian cricketer to feature in the league.

Following his retirement from international cricket and the IPL, Ashwin had opened the door to playing franchise leagues across the world. While the injury has delayed his BBL debut, there remains a possibility of his return later in the season, depending on recovery.
