NEW DELHI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday applauded the Indian blind women's cricket team for clinching the inaugural T20 World Cup, calling their achievement a testament to collective grit and unwavering determination.
In the title clash at the P Sara Oval in Colombo on Sunday, India defeated Nepal by seven wickets to lift the historic trophy. After choosing to bowl first, India held Nepal to 114 for 5 before confidently chasing down the target, finishing at 117 for 3 within 12 overs to seal the title in style.
"Congratulations to Indian Blind Women's Cricket Team for creating history by winning the inaugural Blind Women's T20 World Cup! More commendable is the fact that they stayed unbeaten in the series," Modi posted on X.

India dominated the league stage of the competition, securing victories over Sri Lanka, Australia, Nepal, USA, and Pakistan, before defeating Australia once more in the semi-final to reach the title clash.
The inaugural tournament was jointly hosted by India and Sri Lanka, with matches taking place across venues in Delhi and Bengaluru in addition to Colombo.
Blind cricket features teams of 11 players and is played with a specially designed white plastic ball filled with ball bearings, which produce a rattling sound to help players track its movement.
