NEW DELHI: Khuzaima Tanveer picked up four wickets before Sam Curran and Max Holden put together an unbeaten 123-run stand as Desert Vipers cruised to an eight-wicket win over Gulf Giants, sealing their fifth successive victory in the DP World ILT20 Season 4.

Tanveer ended with figures of 4/10 in the first innings, the best by a UAE bowler in DP World ILT20 history, and also became the first to take four wickets inside the powerplay.

His early burst left the Giants under pressure throughout, as they were restricted to 157/7 in 20 overs at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium on Friday.

In reply, Curran’s unbeaten 67 off 43 balls, which included five fours and three sixes, was well supported by Max Holden’s 64 off 41 deliveries as the Vipers chased down the target comfortably.

Fakhar Zaman (14 off 8) was the first Vipers batter to depart in the second over, undone by a fine delivery from Chris Wood.

Holden ensured the runs kept coming and apart from Hasan Nawaz being run out for 7 off 9 in the fourth over, the Vipers remained in control of the chase. They ended the powerplay at 53/2.

Curran stepped up the tempo in the 11th over, hammering 19 runs off left-arm spinner Liam Dawson, including three sixes, which significantly brought down the required run rate.

He continued his aggressive approach against Kyle Mayers, reaching his half-century in just 32 balls with a classy four while scoring 18 runs in the 14th over.

That surge handed the Vipers firm momentum, and Holden soon followed Curran to his fifty, reaching the milestone in 31 balls with a boundary. The pair kept the scoreboard moving with a steady flow of runs and regular boundaries.

Chris Wood and Mark Adair struggled to contain the duo, who put together an unbeaten 123-run partnership off just 77 balls to seal the chase in 16.5 overs.
