A bizarre pre-match incident during the Perth Scorchers vs Sydney Thunder Big Bash League clash went viral on Tuesday, December 30, after several Scorchers players found themselves in an unexpected off-field situation.

Laurie Evans, Ashton Agar, Aaron Hardie and Mahli Beardman were travelling to the stadium in an Uber when the vehicle broke down mid-journey. Left stranded on the roadside, the four players were forced to step out and push the car in an attempt to jumpstart it, before eventually hopping back in and continuing their trip.

The unusual episode was revealed during the live broadcast, with Evans later recounting the incident in a light-hearted manner, leaving fans and commentators in splits.

Despite the unexpected travel trouble, the Scorchers were unfazed on the field. Batting first, they posted a commanding 202-run total, driven by a superb unbeaten 99 from Ashton Turner. The Scorchers captain narrowly missed out on a century after last recognised batter Ashton Agar was dismissed while attempting an audacious slog over midwicket.

The Scorchers then produced a clinical bowling performance, dismissing the Sydney Thunder for 131 in 17.3 overs. The comprehensive victory propelled Perth to third place on the Big Bash League standings, trailing only the Melbourne Stars and Hobart Hurricanes.
