NEW DELHI: The sixth round of the Ranji Trophy clash between Bengal and Services saw a bizarre incident when Bengal captain Abhimanyu Easwaran was left stunned after being run out in one of the most unfortunate dismissals.

The incident occurred on the last delivery of the 41st over when Easwaran was batting on 81. His partner, Sudip Chatterjee, played a full-length delivery straight back to the bowler, Aditya Kumar.

Easwaran then made a crucial error of judgment, stepping out of the crease and walking towards the pavilion, believing the over was complete and drinks had been called.

However, the ball glanced off Aditya's fingers and ricocheted onto the stumps. Easwaran, already out of his crease, was left stranded. Following an appeal from Services, the on-field umpires referred the decision to the third umpire, who ultimately adjudged Easwaran run out.

Sudip marks comeback with unbeaten ton

Sudip went on to smash an unbeaten century (140) to power Bengal to 340/4 at stumps on the opening day of their Group C Ranji Trophy match at the Bengal Cricket Academy ground in Kalyani.

Making a comeback from an injury, the southpaw hit 12 fours and one six in his undefeated knock off 226 balls, while Easwaran scored a fine 81 (152b).

The duo added 151 runs for the opening wicket to put Services in the back-foot after the visitors opted to bowl.

For Sudip it was his 14th first-class hundred. The opening pair were looking without any trouble before a Abhimanyu's innings was cut short by a run out against the run of play.
