The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on Saturday, January 3, announced India’s squad for the upcoming three-match ODI series against New Zealand. The series is set to begin on January 11, with the opening match scheduled at the BCA Stadium in Vadodara. Shubman Gill has been named captain of the side.

Vice-captain Shreyas Iyer has also been included in the squad, subject to fitness clearance from the Centre of Excellence (CoE) in Bengaluru. The middle-order batter is currently undergoing rehabilitation and is expected to continue his recovery until a few days before the first ODI. If cleared by the CoE, Iyer will rejoin the squad, potentially as a late addition.
Wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant has retained his place in the ODI setup, despite earlier reports suggesting otherwise, while Dhruv Jurel has missed out on selection. Senior all-rounder Hardik Pandya and pace spearhead Jasprit Bumrah have been rested as part of workload management, with an eye on the upcoming T20I series and the T20 World Cup. Both players were also absent from the recent ODI series against South Africa.
India’s pace attack will be led by Mohammed Siraj, the most experienced seamer in the squad, with support from Arshdeep Singh, Harshit Rana and Prasidh Krishna. The spin department features Ravindra Jadeja, Kuldeep Yadav and Washington Sundar, with Jadeja and Sundar providing valuable all-round options. Nitish Kumar Reddy is the lone pace-bowling all-rounder named in the 15-member squad.
