India batter Shreyas Iyer is expected to remain sidelined until March 2026, a BCCI source confirmed to NDTV. The 30-year-old suffered a serious injury during the third ODI against Australia in late October, when he was hospitalised in Sydney with a spleen laceration and internal bleeding.
Iyer is still in recovery and is likely to miss India’s next two ODI series. According to sources, he will also be unavailable for the upcoming IPL season. The BCCI confirmed on November 1 that Iyer had been discharged from the Sydney hospital, with specialists both in Australia and India satisfied with his progress. Team doctor Rizwan Khan had been assigned to support Iyer during his treatment in Sydney.
BCCI Secretary Devajit Saikia expressed gratitude to Dr. Kouroush Haghigi and his team in Sydney, along with Dr. Dinshaw Pardiwala in India, for providing top-class care to the Indian batter.
Since his hospitalisation, Iyer has been undergoing follow-up consultations in Sydney. He is expected to return to India soon, after which he will remain out of action for several months to ensure full recovery and regain match fitness.
During the ODI series in Australia, Iyer scored 72 runs across two games, including a determined 77-ball 61 in the second Adelaide ODI, where he shared a century partnership with Rohit Sharma.
In 2025, Iyer has amassed 496 runs in 11 matches and 10 innings at an average of 49.60, striking at 89.53, with five fifties and a highest score of 79.
