The Indian women’s cricket team’s upcoming white-ball home series against Bangladesh, scheduled for next month, has been postponed by the BCCI. The board is now exploring options to organise an alternate assignment for the newly crowned world champions during the same window.
The series feature three ODIs and three T20Is was part of the ICC Future Tours Programme and was expected to be played in Kolkata and Cuttack.
“We will try to arrange an alternate series in December, but details are still being worked out. As far as the series against Bangladesh is concerned, we didn’t get a go-ahead for it,” a BCCI source told PTI, without elaborating on the reasons.
This series would have been India’s first international outing since winning the ICC ODI World Cup earlier this month.
Although not officially stated, the currently strained diplomatic ties between India and Bangladesh are believed to have influenced the postponement. A tribunal court in Bangladesh recently sentenced former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina to death for alleged crimes against humanity, triggering unrest and deteriorating relations with India. The interim government in Dhaka has also demanded Hasina’s extradition, adding to the tension.
A Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) official confirmed receiving a formal communication from the BCCI. “We have received a letter from the BCCI regarding the cancellation of the series, and now we are waiting to hear new dates or details,” the official told PTI.
It is worth noting that the BCCI had earlier deferred the Indian men’s white-ball tour of Bangladesh scheduled for August this year, pushing it to September 2026 following the upheaval that led to the fall of the Hasina-led government.
The Indian women’s team will now wait for clarity on a possible replacement series in December before players join their respective franchises for the upcoming Women’s Premier League (WPL). They are set to undertake an all-format tour of Australia after the WPL concludes.
