NEW DELHI: Bangladesh and the Netherlands on Wednesday sealed two of the four available spots at the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2026 as the Super Six stage of the Qualifier began.
The Netherlands secured qualification for their first ever T20 World Cup after a quick scoring effort helped them beat the USA by the DLS method.
Bangladesh also booked their place with a comfortable 39 run win over Thailand as Sobhana Mostary top scored with 59, while Kathryn Bryce starred with both bat and ball to guide Scotland to a similar 39 run victory over Ireland.
The Netherlands make history
Rapid scoring from the Netherlands powered them to a 21 run win via the DLS method against the USA, confirming their spot at the Women’s T20 World Cup to be held in England and Wales from June 12 to July 5.
After winning the toss, the USA built their innings steadily with Gargi Bhogle’s 36 and Isani Vaghela’s unbeaten 32 providing stability at the top.
However, once Bhogle was dismissed at 71 for three, Vaghela struggled to find support as Hannah Landheer returned figures of three for 30, restricting the USA to 129 for seven from their 20 overs.
The Netherlands began their chase aggressively with Heather Siegers smashing three sixes in a quickfire 28 off just 12 balls.
At the other end, opener Phebe Molkenboer maintained the tempo, finishing on 46 not out from 43 deliveries before rain forced an early end to the match, with the Netherlands declared winners at 90 for two in 12 overs.
Century stand sets up Bangladesh
Juairiya Ferdous and Sobhana Mostary’s century partnership laid the foundation for Bangladesh’s 39 run win over Thailand, securing their seventh consecutive appearance at a T20 World Cup.
After being asked to bat, Bangladesh were reduced to 12 for two before Juairiya and Sobhana steadied the innings. Juairiya scored 56 from 45 balls, striking three fours and four sixes.
Sobhana followed with 59 off 42 deliveries, hitting nine fours, before falling nine balls after her partner’s dismissal. Bangladesh’s lower order then lost wickets regularly from the 16th over onwards.
Chasing a target of 166, Thailand suffered an early setback as Suwanan Khiaoto was bowled first ball by Marufa Akter. Natthakan Chantham then made 46 and shared a 67 run stand for the second wicket with Nannapat Koncharoenkai who scored 29.
