NEW DELHI: Australian selectors have opted for continuity, announcing an unchanged squad for the Day-Night Ashes Test at the Gabba. Both captain Pat Cummins and fast bowler Josh Hazlewood have been ruled out for the second straight match, remaining sidelined for the upcoming Test against England.

Cummins, who sat out the Perth opener due to a back injury, is still awaiting medical clearance to resume play. Australia won that first Test comprehensively by eight wickets inside two days, but the skipper will not be ready in time for the December 4 clash in Brisbane.

Cummins, who underwent a lengthy training session at the Sydney Cricket Ground on Friday, will head to Brisbane as he works his way back to full bowling fitness. In his continued absence, Steve Smith will remain at the helm for Australia.

Josh Hazlewood, meanwhile, is also unavailable once again. The seamer, who picked up a hamstring strain while playing for NSW in the Sheffield Shield just before the series began, missed the first Test and has not yet been passed fit for a return in Brisbane.

Usman Khawaja keeps his spot in the squad despite being hampered by back spasms in Perth, which prevented him from taking up his usual role at the top of the order in both innings.

Travis Head stepped in for the 38-year-old left-hander at the top of the order and delivered a whirlwind knock, hammering the second-fastest century in Ashes history. His assault propelled Australia to a dominant eight-wicket win over England in just 28.2 overs while chasing 205.

Head's explosive 123 off 83 balls, studded with 16 fours and four sixes, proved decisive in Australia’s commanding victory and handed them a 1-0 lead in the five-match series.
