NEW DELHI: India launched their Asia Cup title defence in style, inflicting a nine-wicket defeat on hosts UAE in Dubai on Wednesday. Spinner Kuldeep Yadav (4/7) and Shivam Dube (3/4) dismantled the UAE batting line-up, before India made light work of the modest 58-run chase, cruising home in just 4.3 overs.

Opener Abhishek Sharma went on the attack from the outset, smashing 30 off just 16 balls with three sixes and two fours. Newly appointed vice-captain Shubman Gill also joined the party, scoring an unbeaten 20 off nine deliveries, including two fours and a six.

After India's thumping victory, Gill took to social media and shared a few photos from the win with the caption, "Step one." His two-word post is largely being viewed as a hint at what lies ahead for India.

It suggested that the first task is done and dusted, with the next big step coming against arch-rivals Pakistan on Sunday - a clash where Team India will be determined to deliver a knockout punch.

Kuldeep, who had a frustrating time in the UK after warming the bench for five straight Tests, was too good for the UAE batters as they lost as many eight wickets for 10 runs after being 47 for two in the ninth over.

India's batting effort was more like a highlights package and a glorified net session with UAE bowlers having very little clue on where to pitch the ball.
