Just days after announcing his retirement from the IPL, Andre Russell found himself in the headlines but for all the wrong reasons after being hammered by West Indies teammate Rovman Powell in the ongoing ILT20 tournament.
The Caribbean duo has shared multiple franchise camps, sometimes as teammates and other times as opponents. But in the match between Dubai Capitals and Abu Dhabi Knight Riders, Powell dominated Russell with towering sixes in a blistering knock of 96 runs off 52 balls.
Rovman Powell punishes Andre Russell with the ball

Russell, bowling for Abu Dhabi Knight Riders, could only deliver two overs in the 16th and 20th, where Powell unleashed his power-hitting prowess. In the final over, Powell struck a six off the second ball, followed by another boundary on a no-ball. The free-hit delivery yielded yet another boundary, and Powell capped the over with a fourth boundary, racking up 24 runs from Russell’s over alone. This onslaught helped Dubai Capitals post a competitive 186 runs at the end of 20 overs.
Russell’s revenge with the bat was minimal. He managed only 12 runs off six balls before falling to Waqar Salamkheil. Abu Dhabi Knight Riders’ top and middle order collapsed, finishing at just 103 runs in 15.3 overs. Waqar Salamkheil was the star for Dubai Capitals with a four-wicket haul, ensuring that Powell came out as the clear winner in the Caribbean showdown.
