Australia wicketkeeper-batter Alex Carey has emphasised that his team will not underestimate England despite holding a commanding 2-0 lead in the ongoing five-Test Ashes series. The hosts have dominated so far, winning both matches by eight wickets.

Carey pointed to England's comeback in the 2023 series when they recovered from a 0-2 deficit to draw the contest as a reminder that the Ashes is far from over. Still, he said Australia are eager to close out the series in the next Test.

“We know England are a very good team. We were in a similar position a couple of years ago in England and couldn’t win the series, though we did retain the Ashes. We’re excited for the opportunity ahead, but we know we need to keep playing good cricket,” Carey told ESPNcricinfo.

Carey has contributed with both bat and gloves, registering scores of 26 and 63 across the first two Tests while also taking 12 catches. His sharp keeping up to the stumps, especially during the pink-ball Test to Michael Neser, earned widespread praise.

The 34-year-old credited Australia’s ability to adapt to different conditions and situations, stressing that there would be no let-up as they prepare for the third Test.

“We’re not looking too far ahead. This group has adapted well, stayed present, and continued finding ways to improve. We know the threats England pose, but focusing on our best cricket is the way to go. We’re definitely not taking the foot off the gas,” he said.

Australia remain unbeaten against England in home Tests since the 2010–11 series and will aim to extend that record when the third Test begins at the Adelaide Oval on December 17.
