NEW DELHI: Deepti Sharma created history in Indian cricket on Friday, achieving a milestone no Indian bowler had touched before.
During the third women’s T20 International against Sri Lanka in Thiruvananthapuram, the Indian all rounder became the first Indian cricketer, men’s or women’s, to reach 150 wickets in T20I cricket.

With this feat, Deepti also moved into elite global company. She is now only the second bowler in the world to take 150 or more wickets in the T20I format, next only to Australia’s Megan Schutt.
Most wickets in women’s T20Is
Deepti Sharma (IND W) – 151*
Megan Schutt (AUS W) – 151
Nida Dar (PAK W) – 144
Henriette Ishimwe (RWA W) – 144
Sophie Ecclestone (ENG W) – 142
The historic 150th wicket came at a crucial stage of the match. Bowling to Kavisha Dilhari, Deepti flighted the ball and tempted the batter to attack.
Dilhari stepped down the track and tried to clear the leg side, but failed to get the distance. The ball went straight to deep mid wicket, where Amanjot Kaur completed a safe catch to break a threatening partnership.
For years, Deepti has been one of India’s most dependable performers. Her all-round contributions have shaped countless victories, including the recent ICC ODI Women's World Cup, where got the player of the tournament award.
