NEW DELHI: India opener Yashasvi Jaiswal continued his Test struggles against South Africa, falling for a duck in the second innings of the first Test at Eden Gardens. The left-hander faced just four deliveries before Proteas pacer Marco Jansen claimed him in the opening over.

Jaiswal had also fallen to Jansen in India's first innings, scoring only 12 runs off 27 balls to become the first wicket to fall on the day.

Chasing 124 on Day 3 in the fourth innings, Jaiswal walked out to bat alongside KL Rahul. Proteas captain Temba Bavuma handed the new ball to Marco Jansen for the opening over. Jaiswal struggled to get going, getting beaten on the first three deliveries while attempting to play shots.

On the fourth ball, Jansen bowled a good-length delivery that nipped back slightly. Jaiswal, frozen on the crease, could only edge it to the keeper, giving South Africa an early breakthrough.

Earlier in India's first innings, Jaiswal had also fallen to Jansen, chopping a short delivery onto his leg stump while attempting a cut shot.

Jaiswal entered the match having struggled in his previous four innings against South Africa, being dismissed cheaply each time. His earlier scores read 17, 5, 0, and 28 - the first two in Centurion in 2023 and the latter two in Cape Town.

Overall, the left-hander has managed just 62 runs in six Test innings against the Proteas, averaging 10.33. Interestingly, five of his six dismissals have come at the hands of left-arm pacers - three to Nandre Burger and two to Marco Jansen.
