NEW DELHI: Former India spinner Anil Kumble has shared a unusual view on the Indian team for the upcoming ICC T20 World Cup 2026.
While India have been in beast form over the last two years, Kumble felt that the previous World Cup-winning side still had a slight edge over the current team.

Experience could be a factor, says Kumble
Speaking about the balance and experience of the squad, Kumble pointed out that the absence of senior players could be felt at crucial moments.
“If you talk about experience, they will miss Virat and Rohit, the two legends, but if you talk about balance, I feel this team is also good because you have bowling options and the batting is different in terms of approach at the top,” the former India spinner said on Star Sports.
Kumble acknowledged that the current Indian side offers variety, especially in its batting approach, while also having multiple bowling options to fall back on.
However, Kumble added that the challenge in 2026 will be different compared to the previous World Cup, particularly because of conditions.
“However, it's still going to be challenging. 2024, in terms of conditions, was very different. I would probably rate the 2024 team maybe 10 percent ahead of this team, but I still feel this team is very close to that,” he added.
India’s dominant run since 2024 triumph
The Indian team, meanwhile, has been in scintillating form since their 2024 T20 World Cup triumph, especially after Suryakumar Yadav took over the captaincy.
India have remained unbeaten in series, winning consistently at home and abroad, including major tournaments like the Asia Cup, while also dominating top teams across the world.
