After a seven-month hiatus from international cricket, a true legend of the sport, Rohit Sharma, is set to make his much-awaited return as India tours Australia for a white-ball series. This series marks a new chapter, with Shubman Gill taking over the ODI captaincy, and all eyes will be on the former captain of the Indian team as he currently stands on the cusp of several monumental records.

Rohit Sharma, who last played for India in the Champions Trophy final, will begin the tour just one match shy of his 500th international appearance, a milestone only achieved by Indian legends Sachin Tendulkar, Virat Kohli, MS Dhoni, and Rahul Dravid. He is also just 300 runs away from completing 20,000 international runs, a feat managed by the same elite group of Indian batsmen.

The prolific six-hitter is poised to rewrite the record books in several categories. He needs just eight more sixes to surpass Pakistan's Shahid Afridi (351) for the most sixes in ODI history. A single six will also make him the first Asian player to hit 150 sixes in the SENA (South Africa, England, New Zealand, Australia) countries.

With one more century, Sharma will not only reach the coveted landmark of 50 international hundreds, joining Tendulkar and Kohli as the only Indians to do so, but he will also become the sole Indian opener with 10 centuries against Australia, moving past the legendary Sachin Tendulkar.

A mere 10 runs will see him become the first Indian to score 1000 ODI runs against Australia in their own backyard. He also has the opportunity to become the leading run-scorer for India as an opener, needing 174 runs to go past Virender Sehwag's tally of 15,758 runs. Furthermore, 164 runs will place him ahead of Sachin Tendulkar as the leading Indian run-scorer in ODIs in Australia.

The run-scoring milestones continue, as Sharma is 196 runs away from surpassing Sourav Ganguly (11,363 runs) to become the third-highest run-scorer for India in ODIs, behind Tendulkar and Kohli. He also requires 242 runs to complete 6000 runs in SENA countries and 30 runs to reach 8000 ODI runs in matches that India has won.

Rounding out the impressive list, the underrated fielder that he is, is just three catches short of completing 100 catches in the ODI format, further cementing his legacy as a complete cricketer. As he reintegrates into the team under a new captain, this tour down under, starting from tomorrow, promises to be a record-breaking one for the Hitman Rohit Sharma.
