NEW DELHI: Indian cricketer Yuzvendra Chahal has once again become the subject of intense social media scrutiny, this time for a cryptic, now-deleted Instagram Story that fans believe was directed at his ex-wife, Dhanashree Verma. The post referenced a recent court ruling concerning alimony, sparking widespread debate.

The Alimony Reference

The controversy began when the Indian leg-spinner shared a screenshot of a news snippet detailing a Delhi High Court ruling. The headline explicitly stated that "Financially independent wives cannot demand alimony from their husbands."

Alongside this screenshot, Chahal added a provocative caption in Hindi: "Maa Kasam Khao Nahi Paltoge iss Decision Seh," which translates to, "Swear on your mother you won’t go back on this decision."

Though the post was quickly removed, it immediately went viral, leaving fans to speculate whether the message was a genuine endorsement of the court’s stance or a pointed jab at his former spouse.

Divorce and Reported Settlement

This public display follows the highly publicized dissolution of Chahal's marriage to Dhanashree Verma, a choreographer and influencer. The couple, who married in December 2020, finalized their divorce at the Bombay High Court in March of this year, after beginning separation proceedings in June 2022.

Reports at the time of the divorce suggested a substantial settlement figure, around Rs 4 crore (or Rs 4.75 crore, according to some sources), although neither Chahal nor Verma ever confirmed the exact amount. The post thus lands in the context of this significant, unconfirmed financial payout.

Earlier this year, Chahal had also disclosed his struggles with mental health during their separation period, revealing that the couple maintained a public facade despite having differing ambitions and life goals leading up to the divorce.
