South Africa defeated Bangladesh by 104 runs to secure their first win in the T20 World Cup 2022. De Kock and Rilee Rossouw's partnership helped South Africa to post 205 runs on the scoreboard and Anrich Nortje's four-fer helped them to defeat Bangladesh by a huge margin. Their previous encounter against Zimbabwe was washed out, and both teams shared a point each.

South Africa defeated Bangladesh by 104 runs to secure their first win in the T20 World Cup 2022. De Kock and Rilee Rossouw's partnership helped South Africa to post 205 runs on the scoreboard and Anrich Nortje's four-fer helped them to defeat Bangladesh by a huge margin. Their previous encounter against Zimbabwe was washed out, and both teams shared a point each.

Rossouw, de Kock partnership

Despite losing skipper Temba Bavuma early in the game, South Africa scored 63 runs in the powerplay. Both batsmen hammered Taskin Ahmed for 21 runs in the third over and then scored 16 runs off Mehidy Hasan's over. The match was delayed for 22 minutes during the powerplay due to rain. After the rain delay, both batsmen picked up from where they left off, scoring 13 runs off the second over from Mosaddek Hossain.

Rilee Rossouw reached his 30-ball 50 and then whacked Shakib Al Hasan for 21 runs in the 11th over, followed by 17 runs in the 12th over. De Kock reached his half-century with a six in the 13th over, and then both the batters smashed Taskin Ahmed for 23 runs in the next over. After 10 overs, South Africa was 91-1, and both hitters added 80 runs in the next five overs. They put on a 168-run stand for the second wicket before Afif Hossain dismissed Quinton de Kock.

Last 5 overs

Rilee Rossouw scored his second T20I century in 52 balls, but South Africa struggled to score runs in the final five overs. Only 29 runs were added in the final five overs. Shakib removed Tristan Stubbs in the 17th over and Rilee Rossouw in the 19th over, while Hasan Mahmud only conceded 12 runs in his final two overs. South Africa were on track to score 225+ at one point, but Bangladesh held them to 205/5 in 20 overs.

Nortje demolished Bangladesh's top order

Bangladesh got off to a solid start in the first over, as Soumya Sarkar and Najmul Hossain Shanto smacked Kagiso Rabada for two sixes and a four. Nortje removed Soumya Sarkar and Najmul Hossain Shanto in his first over. In his second over, Nortje removed Bangladesh's captain Shakib Al Hasan while Kagiso Rabada dismissed Afif Hossain in the final over of the powerplay.

Bangladesh all out for 101

After the pacers, the South African spinners took over. Shamsi knocked Mehidy Hasan out in the 10th over, and Maharaj removed Mosaddek Hossain in the 11th over, leaving Bangladesh on 74/6. In his next two overs, Shamsi removed Nurul Hasan and Liton Das while Hasan Mahmud was run out. Anrich Nortje completed his four-wicket haul by dismissing Taskin Ahmed, and Bangladesh were all out for 101 runs in 16.3 overs.
