After the much-awaited announcement of the T20I and ODI squads of the Australia Tour, Gautam Gambhir suddenly became the centre of attention, albeit for his support in the change of ODI captaincy. Gautam Gambhir’s success parameter as a head coach has been durable in white ball format, but hard to endure in the red-ball format. His recent victory with the team winning the first test of India vs West Indies. He hosted dinner for the Indian test squad, including the support staff, at his residence in New Delhi, on Wednesday.

The attendance included all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja, pacer Jasprit Bumrah, Dhruv Jurel, Axar Patel, KL Rahul, and Prasidh Krishna. The players and support staff arrived by bus together, dressed casually. Indian captain Shubman Gill was spotted wearing a white T-shirt, with blue jeans and black glasses. Assistant coach Ryan ten Doeschate and BCCI vice president Rajeev Shukla were also seen.

Photos and videos of this informal get-together are rapidly spreading on social media. While this informal meeting is a little celebration for the resounding victory at Ahmedabad, and lifting the confidence of the team, before the Delhi test against West Indies on 10th October.

With the Delhi Test looming, everyone is focused on how the pitch will play and to expect a surface that will favour the batsmen for the first two days, with potential assistance to spin bowlers after that. The last Test match in Delhi was against Australia in 2023, and India won that Test in three days.

For India, this series against the West Indies is important to not lose their position on the World Test Championship points table after the conclusion of the match. After the series is concluded, the Indian team will be heading for the ODI series against Australia, starting on October 19.
