There's a bad news coming out from the Sri Lankan team camp. Their star bowler Dushmantha Chameera has been ruled out of the remaining of the T20 World Cup due to injury. The injury looks serious according to the cricbuzz reports.
Chameera earlier was ruled out of the Asia Cup 2022 as well due to a calf injury but was included in the T2O World Cup squad after a full recovery. He was even part of the playing eleven in both the matches Sri Lanka have played so far.
Chameera bowled his heart out against the match against the United Arab Emirates on Monday as he took 3 wickets for just 15 runs. He played a vital role in Sri Lanka's 79-run victory over UAE.
He got injured during the last over of his spell and was seen suffering with immense pain on the field. Chameera's exclusion is horrible news for the Sri Lankan team as young pacer Dilshan Madushanka has already been ruled out of the tournament due to a quadriceps injury.
Madushanka was injured during the practice match whereas batter Danushka Gunathilaka's fitness issues are already creating a headache for the team management.
Sri Lanka have named Ashen Bandara, Praveen Jayawickrama Dinesh Chandimal, and Nuwanidu as reserves for the T2O World Cup. One of them could probably be named as the possible replacement in the team for injured Chameera.
Sri Lanka haven't qualified for the Super-12 stage yet. They stand third at the moment in the Round 1 Group A points table with 2 points to their name. The Asian Champions have played two matches out of which they've won one against UAE and suffered a humiliating loss against Namibia.
They will face the Netherlands on October 20 who already have won both their group games. Lanka will have to win this game with a huge margin to qualify for the super-12 stage
