As it happened:-

West Indies won the toss and opted to bowl first in the first T20I at the Brian Lara Cricket Stadium which was hosting its first international match. Rohit Sharma and Suryakumar Yadav opened the innings for India on a slow-paced wicket. Both gave India a good start Surya smashed a couple of fours and a six before getting out on 24 in Akeal Hosein's over. Shreyas Iyer was dismissed on duck by Obed McCoy and India scored 45/2 in the powerplay.

Rishabh Pant and Hardik Pandya got out cheaply but Rohit Sharma kept scoring runs and reached his half-century. Rohit smashed a couple of more boundaries before he was dismissed by Jason holder on 64. Ravindra Jadeja also struggled to get runs he scored 16 off 13 before getting out in Alzarri Joseph's over.

At one stage India were struggling to reach the 160 mark but Dinesh Karthik's blistering knock helped India to post 190 on the scoreboard. Karthik scored 41 off 19 balls with an impressive strike rate of 215.

West Indies started well but lost the wicket of Kyle Mayers in the second over. Bhuvneshwar dismissed Shamarh Brooks on 20 after that none of the West Indies batters even managed to cross the 20-run mark as they found it difficult to face the Indian spinners.
