No Guptill and Boult as New Zealand announces ODI & T2OI squads for India series

New Zealand have announced their squads for ODI and T2OI series against India. The squad looks to have moved on from some experienced players as they might want to look beyond them.

Kane Williamson once again will be leading the side in both series. New Zealand veteran opening batter Martin Guptill and the experienced pacer Trent Boult are not part of either squad against India.

Boult who already has given up on his central contractor so will be spending time with his family and playing leagues all around. It looks like Boult is heading towards the end of his International cricketing career.

The New Zealand coach Gary Stead said it was never easy leaving out the experience of Boult and Guptill but the team had to keep looking ahead.

"When Trent opted out of his NZC contract in August, we indicated that priority would be given to those players with either central or domestic contracts, and that's been the case here"
"We're all aware of Trent's world-class ability, but at this time - as we build towards more global events, we want to give opportunities and experience to others" Head Coach Gary Stead added.

In the absence of experienced campaigner Martin Guptill, Finn Allen could be the one who'll be opening in both ODI and T2OI series. Guptill has scored 3531 runs with the help of 2 centuries at an average of 31.81 and a strike rate of 135.7 in the 122 T2OI career matches and 7346 runs at an average of 41.5 in 198 ODI career matches.

The 23-year-old Finn Allen on the other hand has scored 564 runs at a strike rate of 165.4 in 23 T2OI matches.
