India penalised for slow over-rate at Edgbaston

After the 7 wickets defeat against England, India has been docked two points for maintaining a slow over-rate. This was the third time India lost points in the WTC table, India lost two points in the first Test of the same series and one point in South Africa at Centurion.

Indian team players have also been fined 40% of their match fees. After losing two points, India slipped below Pakistan in the WTC table. India currently stands in the fourth position with a point percentage of 52.08 and Pakistan at third with a point percentage of 52.38. Australia and South Africa are the current table-toppers in the World Test Championship table 

According to Article 2.22 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel, players are fined 20 percent of their match fee for every over their side fails to bowl in the allotted time.

In addition, as per Article 16.11.2 of the ICC World Test Championship (WTC) playing conditions, a side is penalised one point for each over short.

Australia also missed the final of the inaugural World Test Championship final due to overrate offense against India in the boxing day Test. India has six more Test matches left two against Bangladesh and four against Australia at home and they have to win all the remaining matches.
