Scoring a century is considered as the most pleasing moment for any batsman and it becomes even more delightful when he scores a century in a huge tournament like IPL. However, there are many occasions when the batter, unfortunately, gets dismissed on 99.

It's a very painful feeling to miss out on a century by just 1 run. There have been 8 unfortunate players in the IPL history who have tasted the bitterness of missing out on a century by just 1 run, out of which 5 were dismissed and 3 remained not out on the unlucky score of 99.

RUTURAJ GAIKWAD

CSK's sparkling opener Ruturaj Gaikwad features the list of getting dismissed on 99. Gaikwad along with Devon Conway added 182 runs for the 1st wicket against Sunrisers Hyderabad on 1 May 2022. This partnership helped CSK to post a huge total of 202 runs for the loss of 2 wickets in their 20 Overs. Chasing the target, SRH only managed to score 189 runs for 6 wickets in their 20 Overs.

CSK won this match by 13 runs. Ruturaj was dismissed by T Natarajan after playing a sublime inning of 99 runs in just 57 balls. He smashed 6 fours and 6 sixes during his brilliant inning. Even after getting dismissed for an unlucky score of 99, Gaikwad won the hearts of many fans. 

VIRAT KOHLI

Virat Kohli was the first-ever batsman in IPL to get dismissed on the unlucky score of 99. In a match between RCB and Delhi Daredevils on 10 May 2013, RCB were struggling for 32/2 after they opted to bat first. Their innings was well rescued by Virat who kept playing his shots from one end and went on to play a master inning of 99 runs in 58 balls. 

He smashed 10 fours and 4 sixes but got dismissed on 99. The former RCB captain managed to take his team to a total of 183/4 in their 20 Overs. Chasing the target, Delhi Daredevils scored 179/7 in their 20 overs and lost the match by just 4 runs. 

PRITHVI SHAW

Delhi Capitals' Prithvi Shaw has also been dismissed for 99 in the IPL. Delhi Capitals faced Kolkata Knight Riders on 28 September 2020 where KKR scored an amazing total of 185/8 in their 20 Overs. Chasing the target, DC opener Prithvi Shaw batted brilliantly and scored 99 runs in just 55 balls that included 12 fours and 3 sixes.

Shaw was dismissed by Lockie Ferguson. Prithvi's inning helped Delhi Capitals to reach the target and the match resulted in a tie. DC won the match on Super Over and Shaw was adjudged as player of the match for his exceptional batting. 

ISHAN KISHAN

Mumbai Indians faced RCB on 28 September 2020 where RCB scored a gigantic total of 201/3 while batting first in their 20 Overs. Mumbai Indians while chasing the target lost 3 early wickets for just 39 runs before Ishan Kishan took on RCB bowlers. He smashed 99 runs in just 58 balls that included 2 fours and 9 sixes.

Kishan was on 99 when he gave a simple catch to Devdutt Padikkal off Isuru Udana's bowling. Kishan's inning helped Mumbai to level the score on 201/5 in their 20 Overs. MI, however, lost the match in the super over but fans enjoyed some unbelievable hitting of Ishan Kishan. 

CHRIS GAYLE

Chris Gayle holds the record of scoring most centuries in IPL history. He has smashed 6 centuries in this popular T20 league. Gayle has been dismissed on 99 once and remained unbeaten on the same score once too in his IPL career. Punjab Kings faced Rajasthan Royals on 30 October 2020. Punjab while batting first posted a total of 185/4 in their 20 Overs.

Chris Gayle missed out on a century as he was dismissed on 99 runs by Jofra Archer. The veteran faced 63 balls for his 99 runs and smashed 6 fours and 8 sixes in his brilliant innings. Gayle's knock went in vain as Punjab lost the match by 7 runs. Rajasthan Royals easily chased the target for the loss of just 3 wickets in their 20 Overs.
